Is fault detection available in ACQ001?

Posted by jellykitty at April 21. 2008
Can the ACQ001 be configured to detect power and/or current surges on individual connected outlets? In other words, if an aquarium heater cracks and starts drawing excessive current, can such a condition be detected and corrected, say by shutting down the outlet where the fault is detected? Thanks.

Hi  jellykitty,

you can set the allarms and you can set a temperature program for the heater. For example temperature highe then 30°C plug E switch off (if you connected te heater to the E plug).

Thanks for the reply. I gather the answer is "no". A failing device drawing currents on the order of 4-8 amps is not necessarily going to raise water temperature to 30C, so a temperature alarm may never get tripped. And what if instead of heater failure, it is powerhead failure due to a fray developing in its cable? I am interested in a fault detection feature that detects unusual current load and trips (shuts off) the circuit, much the way a home's electrical circuit breaker panel can mechanically shut off a high current overload.
