Density probe reading gone mental

Posted by Phil27 at August 26. 2009

Hi

I bought a density probe about 3 weeks ago and it seemed to be working OK to start with but I noticed after a week that the S.G. was continually dropping. After 3 weeks the readings are all over the place. I clean, calibrate and within 30 seconds its flicking about all over the place ranging from 1.100 to 1.010. Is the probe likely to be faulty or the interface. I'm very happy with all the other probes, pH, temp, level and redox but the density probe appears to be a problem after reading other peoples comments. I have noticed the interface appears to be quite warm but I don't know if this is normal.

Information for anyone who reads this. I moved my usb connection from the interface from poer unit 2 to power unit 1. The probe now appears to be working fine again. I don't know if this is to do with the power unit connection or the positioning of the wires. I'm thinking that it could have been picking up some electrical interferance from something else. All now appears well. Overall I am very impressed by the Aquatronica system.

I am also experiencing similiar problems.  My density probe which has always been plugged into powerbar #1 has been working fine for about 4 months and then suddenly in the last 4 weeks I cannot keep the denisty readings stable - they are all over the place.  Even after I recalibrate the probe the readings start to vary within a couple of days and the readings do not sense - no where close to the real density readings in the tank.  I will try moving my probe to powerbar #2 to see if it helps to stablize the probe reading.   If not, then I'll have to contact technical support for assistance.

Hi Karliefish,

another thing you should do is to make a reset, in this way you restart from a "clean" situation and the density probe can start working correctly again.

Bye
